International Presidential Scholarship 2017-2018
The University of Maine offers a limited number of International Presidential Scholarships in recognition of outstanding academic performance valued at $25,000 per academic year.
Who is eligible?
Scholarships are primarily limited to first-time, degree-seeking, undergraduate foreign nationals who qualify for the F-1 or J-1 student visa. Recipients of the award will be required to maintain their status as full-time students at the University of Maine. For students receiving the Undergraduate Canadian Resident tuition rate, the scholarship will be prorated to $15,000.
How do I apply?
To be considered for the International Presidential Scholarship, applicants must complete a University of Maine admission application AND submit an International Presidential Scholarship Application application by February 1 each year for a fall-semester start.
When is the application deadline?
To be considered, applicants must have a completed University of Maine application and a completed International Presidential Scholarship application on file by February 1.
When are awards made?
Awards are made once a year in March for the coming academic year. Students who apply for admission in the spring (January-start) semester are not considered for this award.
What is the selection criteria?
Candidates are selected based on the following criteria: academic achievement, proficiency in English, extra-curricular activities, and quality of written essay. Female applicants and applicants from countries underrepresented in the University of Maine international student population are encouraged to apply.
Is the award renewed automatically each year?
The award is not renewed automatically each year. Students must maintain full-time enrollment and a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 3.00 in order for the scholarship to be renewed. Additionally, the award is for a maximum of 8 semesters (4 academic years) for a student entering as a first-year applicant and 6 semesters (3 academic years) for a transfer student. Recipients of the award must also remain on a non-immigrant student visa F-1 or J-1 to be eligible to hold the scholarship.
