Loughborough University is pleased to announce a fully funded PhD studentship connected to the research of Dr. Ahren Warner based in the School of the Arts, English and Drama.
The studentship will be paid for a period of up to three years, starting 1st January 2017. It will cover tuition fees at the UK/EU rate, and provide a tax-free stipend of £14,296.*
The School offers an exciting interdisciplinary research environment and welcomes the submission of high-quality proposals that have the potential to make a substantive contribution to either practice-based or critical research on historical or contemporary dialogues between poetry, visual art and media technologies.
The Project
Proposals should outline practice-based and/or critical explorations of an as-pect of the interplay between poetry or poetic language, visual art, materiality and/or media. Topics might include, but are not limited to:
- Original, practice-based creative writing and/or fine art proposals draw-ing on a dialogue between literary and visual practices
- Publishing and literary materiality
- Philosophical approaches to poetic materiality
- New media as literary or visual form
- Historical Avant-Garde and/or Modernist literature/fine art
- Textuality in modern or contemporary visual art
- Photography and literary practice
Applicants should have
- a first class or good upper second class Honours de-gree in English, Fine Art or a related area
- a Master’s degree (preferably with merit or distinction (or their overseas equivalents)). Applicants whose Master’s results are pending will be considered.
- Applicants must also meet the University’s English Language requirements
International (non-EU) students may apply, however the total value of the studentship will be used towards the cost of the International tuition fees. Any remainder will be paid to the successful candidate as a reduced stipend.

*The value of the tax-free stipend in years two and three will increase in line with Research Council recommended values.
